Welcome to Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International. The mission of GMDI is to “provide standards of excellence and leadership in nutrition therapy for genetic metabolic disorders through clinical practice, education, advocacy, and research”. Five years after its founding, GMDI is an independent ,non-profit ,and self-sustaining organization that strives to fulfill this mission.
I encourage you to browse the GMDI website and view the many benefits to members that are offered. The newsletter, GMDI Connections, provides articles of interest on a regular basis. June 2010 will see the launch of MetabolicPro, a nutrient analysis program developed specifically for the needs of metabolic nutritionists. Also anticipated are nutrition therapy guidelines currently being developed with the SouthEastern Regional Collaborative. These are major projects that will greatly increase our ability to be effective and consistent in the nutritional therapy we provide our patients. GMDI also presents an educational conference every 2 years. The April, 2010 conference in Baltimore provided an opportunity to learn new theory and practices, and to develop relationships among colleagues across the country and the world who share our professional specialty. We look forward to planning the 2012 conference.
I believe it is important for all of us to recognize that we are GMDI. This organization exists to provide professional support we, as metabolic nutritionists, need in order to practice. But we cannot only ask what GMDI can give us. We also have a professional obligation give back to GMDI, so that it can continue to fulfill its purpose. I encourage each of you to do so by offering your membership commitment and your skills to GMDI.
2010-2011 GMDI President
