MetabolicPro (www.metabolicpro.org) is the only web-based nutrient analysis software program designed for metabolic nutritionists.
Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International (GMDI) is a professional organization for metabolic dietitians. GMDI members described the need for a diet analysis software program that would meet the unique needs of patients with metabolic disorders. Of importance to metabolic nutritionists was a nutrient analysis program that included an extensive nutrient profile of metabolic medical foods and low protein foods, and one which had complete amino acid data of foods.
GMDI organized the Technology Committee who together with the software development firm, Vistrada, created this diet analysis tool. MetabolicPro was made possible by unrestricted educational grants from Nutricia North America, (Rockville, MD) and BioMarin (Novato, CA). In addition, Abbott Nutrition (Columbus, OH) donated the food database from the Amino Acid Analyzer software program, which contains nutrient profiles on foods unique to inborn errors.

MetabolicPro is a type of program called “software as a service” as are a growing number of software programs being developed today. MetabolicPro is a web-based software system. This differs from many diet analysis software programs where one downloads an application to a local computer to use it. Purchasing a MetabolicPro license allows access to the website where the diet analysis software is housed. Patient diet records are also stored on a secure website.
You may purchase one or more licenses by going GMDI website (www.gmdi.org) and choosing the MetabolicPro tab on the top menu bar. Following the steps outlined in "How to Purchase MetabolicPro". Membership in GMDI is not required to purchase Metabolic Pro. Before you buy, learn more about how Metabolic Pro works.

MetabolicPro is available by purchasing a license. Licenses are valid for one year and then must be renewed. MetabolicPro licenses are purchased either for a single user or for a center (defined as a group of users in the same hospital or institution). Users within a center have access to all the patients seen at that center as well as to the custom databases that are created by other users in that center. Custom databases include foods entered in My Foods, recipes entered in My Recipes, or custom RDAs entered in My RDAs. This facilitates the sharing of information among metabolic dietitians who share in the nutritional care of a common set of patients.
Patient names are not stored on the web making this software system fully HIPAA compliant. Patients are identified by number and date of birth. Clinicians may wish to store a spreadsheet file on a local computer that links patient ID numbers and names.
